A NEW deputy chief fire officer has been appointed at Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

Jon Day had been acting in the role, but has been made a permanent appointment.

Mr Day joined the service in 1983 as a firefighter.

Chief fire officer Kevin Pearson said: “I am delighted that Jon’s position has been made permanent.

“During his short term as acting deputy fire chief, he has achieved a significant amount of positive organisational change.

“I look forward to him being able to build on the firm foundations he has laid, and to work alongside him to continue to improve our organisation during this particularly challenging period for the service.”

Chairman of the Fire Authority, Cllr Terry Walker, said: “Jon is exceptionally well placed with his experience, knowledge and leadership abilities, to work alongside the Chief to steer the organisation through the very difficult times we face.”
