A FRUIT and veg stall has opened in a North Somerset village, aimed at giving young people and families better access to healthy food.

Banwell, Winscombe and Sandford Children’s Centre has added the weekly fresh produce market to its services.

The stall will be outside of the centre at the bottom of West Street car park in Banwell every Friday at 9am. A stay-and-play session will also take place from 9.30am and the stall will run until 11.30am.

Nicky Forrest, who runs the stall, also takes Healthy Start vouchers from low income families and can process bank cards.

She is also happy to make deliveries during the week, including gift baskets and sacks of potatoes if ordered in advance.

The centre’s Emma Allen, who first came up with the idea, also hopes this will offer a more varied diet to those in the village who cannot travel long distances.
