A SOMERSET village could soon get a new group which will fight for improvements on its streets.

About 12 people turned up to a special meeting to explore the possibility of setting up a local action team (LAT).

Avon and Somerset police's anti-social behaviour co-ordinator, Terry Crees, held the workshop in the village's library in High Street to explore the possibility of setting up the group.

LATs are partnerships of organisations which are set up to work together and combat problems in the community.

The first meeting is scheduled for January at the fire station in Rock Road. The exact date has not been confirmed but the parish council is asking more people to come forward and help with the plans. If anyone can they should call chairman Juley Howard on 01934 420071.

Similar groups across the Weston have been saying this year they are struggling to keep numbers up at meetings.

Members of Kewstoke, Milton and Worlebury and Mead Vale LATs have reported depleted membership.

But North Somerset Council and the police have vowed to work with the groups to resolve any problems and make them more successful.
