A new support group will help people living in Weston-super-Mare suffering from coeliac disease.

A Somerset support group has been set up by Coeliac UK, a charity which provides advice and help to people who have been diagnosed with the diseased, which is caused by a reaction to gluten.

More than 50 people living in North Somerset are registered with Coeliac UK and Wendy Hughes, who lives in Weston, is the Somerset group’s organiser.

She was diagnosed with the disease five years ago and said: “It has a big impact on people’s lives.

“We will help people with diet advice, tell them where to get products and things like that.

“We will also be asking what people want, if they want a mini food festival or a cookery session, we will try to cater to that.”
