RESIDENTS are campaigning against controversial plans to build 24 homes in Cheddar. Summerfield Developments wants to build the combination of flats and houses with garages opposite Ceconda in The Barrows.Cheddar Parish Council objected to the proposals after residents voiced their concerns on the project.Homeowners say they cannot sell their houses as potential buyers are being put off by the uncertainty surrounding the proposed development.Sedgemoor District Council's planning committee rejected outline permission to build on the site in February 2005.But the district council was left with a bill for thousands of pounds of compensation to the developers after the Planning Inspectorate overturned the decision at an appeal in August last year. The planning committee can now only object to the style and safety requirements of the properties and not whether development is appropriate for the site.Parish council chairman Peter Lythgoe said councillors objected to the proposal because it would look out of place in the village. He said: "Some residents are very concerned about this as they haven't been able to sell their homes because of this proposed development."It's quite a lot of properties for the area and would look out of place under the current plans."It's a small piece of land and a lot of buildings would be put in there causing us to be very concerned."Sedgemoor's planning committee is due to make a decision on the homes on July 4.
