PLANS to build 24 homes in Cheddar have been revised after objections from the parish council.Residents were angry Summerfield Developments wanted to build a combination of flats and houses with garages opposite Ceconda in The Barrows.Homeowners say they were unable to sell their homes due to the uncertainty surrounding the proposed development. But the project will now go ahead if there are no further objections from the parish council after the developers changed the proposed houses to bungalows to fit in with the neighbouring homes.Further consultation will be carried out and if there are no formal objections then the plans will be approved by Sedgemoor District Council officers under delegated powers.Parish councillor Jeff Savage said the decision on the site was a matter of damage limitation. He said: "We're pleased we've had the opportunity to have our concerns raised and we feel we've struck a good balance."It's not what we would have liked to see there, but with outline permission it was a damage limitation exercise."We needed to get the right mix of properties there."Sedgemoor District Council's planning committee rejected outline permission to build on the site in February 2005.But the district council was left with a bill for thousands of pounds of compensation to the developers after the Planning Inspectorate overturned the decision at an appeal in August last year. The planning committee could only object to the style and safety requirements of the properties and not whether development was appropriate for the site.
