A SPECIAL project to crackdown on car arson across North Somerset has been launched. North Somerset Council has joined forces with the emergency services and other local authorities in a bid to reduce arson by improving the removal of abandoned vehicles.

A SPECIAL project to crackdown on car arson across North Somerset has been launched.North Somerset Council has joined forces with the emergency services and other local authorities in a bid to reduce arson by improving the removal of abandoned vehicles.The Car Clear scheme, which is run by the Arson Task Force, targets car dumping hotspots and removes vehicles which are abandoned, have no value, are not taxed or have no registered owner.The aim is to remove the vehicles as quickly as possible in order to avoid them being set alight by arsonists.The cost of removal is funded by North Somerset Council which already has a duty to remove abandoned vehicles from public places. In the last two years over 300 vehicles have been removed from public areas in North Somerset.To report an abandoned vehicle, residents can contact North Somerset Council on 01934 888802.
