A Somerset village which has a distinct lack of ‘affordable housing’ may have its problem solved, after Sedgemoor District Council began a new drive to find a suitable development area.

Efforts to tackle Brent Knoll’s housing issues will be carried out with the views of local people in mind, and began with a consultation evening on Tuesday, which also involved the parish council.

There are possible plans to build new affordable homes near Station Road, but these are not yet confirmed.

Sedgemoor housing development manager, Duncan Harvey, said: “As with any development proposals there will be much debate from local residents.

“We wanted people to find out more about affordable housing, the scale of the problem in Brent Knoll and to talk about a possible site on which new homes might be provided.

“It is important to remember this event was not a precursor to a planning application.”
