THE developer in charge of revamping the dilapidated Tropicana on Weston seafront says it is closing in on deals to sign up operators for the pool, cinema and hotel.Henry Boot Developments says it is in 'final discussions' with companies who will run the three major attractions in the £25million scheme. The project will include a 65-bed hotel and multi-screen cinema as well as a leisure and swimming pool. These are the latest images of the proposed development obtained exclusively by the Weston & Somerset Mercury. The Sheffield-based builders have also been in negotiation with firms to operate the children's play area and retail units such as bars and restaurants. The identities of the firms, many of whom are said to household names, are due to be unveiled by the end of the summer as soon as the ink dries on the formal agreements. It has been a year since the contract to change the crumbling seafront pool into Lifestation@Tropicana was awarded to Henry Boot.Since then, the company says it has been working hard behind the scenes on structural, planning and design surveys as well as hammering out agreements with firms to run the attractions.Henry Boot is due to make a full planning application to North Somerset Council by March 2007. It hopes to start building by that autumn and finish the scheme two years later.
