Weston College has applied for planning permission to build a new artificial sports pitch.

The all-weather pitch will be 61 metres wide and 97.4 metres in length and will be located directly behind the college’s university campus, in Loxton Road.

It will have a total area of 7132sqm and form part of the college’s proposed new £13.3million Health and Active Living Skills Centre, also in Loxton Road.

The floodlit pitch will include a single-storey sports equipment store which will have a ridge height of 3.6 metres.

In the design and access statement, the college said it wishes ‘to minimise the impact on the houses to the north of the college campus’.

A new footpath will be located to the east of the pitch to connect it to the equipment store and to footpaths within the campus, while it stresses no trees will be removed ‘to provide ease of access to the proposed health centre’.
