A MODERN golf clubhouse and 12 new jobs are planned for Brean Leisure Park.

Applicants at the complex in Coast Road, near Burnham, have submitted a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council to renew an existing proposal on the leisure site.

The single-storey golf clubhouse on the 18-hole course would include a bar, dining area and club shop as well as 51 additional car parking spaces, inclusive of one disabled bay.

Six of the new jobs would be part-time.

An online comment from the chartered building surveyors, Wolstenholme & Partners, said: "Facilities have been outgrown by the expansion of the growing membership, increasing numbers of visitors and their expectations of facilities to satisfy their demands.

"There is a danger that the lack of facilities will lead to increasing difficulties in attracting new business and maintaining a vibrant membership."

A decision on the proposal is expected next month.
