New play area set for village park

AN ADVENTURE-STYLE play area is to be built at a park in Hutton thanks to an unexpected pot of funding from the Government.

Work will start next month on installing a zip wire, swing basket, log walk and spider climbing frame at the Golden Jubilee Park, off Springwood Gardens.

It comes after Hutton Parish Council received a cash grant of £27,000 from a Government funding scheme called Playbuilder.

The money is aimed at improving play facilities for children aged from eight to 13 year olds, but was not expected by the council because of funding cut-backs.

However, the council received the grant last month and, following a consultation with residents, councillors chose a scheme for the park.

Clerk Steve Cope said: “This is great news for the village, especially for youngsters who will now have a new piece of equipment to play on.

“It was all a bit of surprise for us but, of course, we are delighted.”

Cumbria-based company Playdale expect to finish work on the play area by the end of July.
