RESIDENTS in Congresbury may soon be able to enjoy new play equipment.

The Millennium Green Trust wants to install new play items on the green, which can be accessed from the Riverside Car Park in Kent Road.

The first piece of equipment to be installed is likely to be a slide, which will be placed at ground level down a hill so it can be accessed by disabled people.

Trust chairman Mary Short said: "We have been asking children in the area what else they would like to have and most said they really enjoy playing on swings.

"We are going to try to incorporate this into apparatus that can be built around an original wig-wam structure, which was put on the green a few years ago.

"We are hoping to have the first two items in place by Christmas."

Congresbury Parish Council has agreed to take on the maintenance of the new equipment, but the Millennium Green Trust will need extra funding for any more equipment it wants to install.

Mrs Short said: "There is quite a lot of equipment around that caters for people of all ages but it will require more funding. The first two pieces alone will probably cost a total of around £7,000.

"We are hoping in the future to also a trim trail, which will be made up of different apparatus around the edge of the site, which people can use to help them get fit."
