A CONSORTIUM of builders says it is prepared to plough millions of pounds into a plan which could ease traffic woes for hundreds of Weston commuters.Mead Realisation's managing director Derek Mead, who has built hundreds of houses across the South West, wants to build three new roads to take traffic right around problem areas. He says he and a consortium of builders will contribute millions to the scheme if it gets the go-ahead from North Somerset Council.Mr Mead, who owns Meadow Mead Homes, wants to build a road off the A370 to link up with the RAF Locking site which is going to be developed with homes and businesses. To keep the traffic flowing he is also proposing slip roads off the motorway so commuters could avoid the motorway roundabout and go straight onto Somerset Avenue or the A370.As part of his plan, Mr Mead also wants to extend Diamond Batch so drivers would have a quicker route to Worle Parkway station.Mr Mead said: "My proposal will mean traffic can go around the queues and would also give everyone a route straight to Worle station rather than going round to the roundabout by The Summerhouse pub."It would cost millions to do but I estimate North Somerset has made about £2million through taxes which builders give to them for each house they build. "I would also expect the Regional Development Agency would give some funding. The rest of the costs would be met by myself and a consortium of other regional developers, which could be millions of pounds."Mr Mead says he has already spoken with a senior council officer and a North Somerset councillor about his proposals. He hopes to put completed plans forward to North Somerset Council in the autumn.
