A temporary route to Weston General Hospital's A&E department has been set up as a new £842,000 redesign begins.

Visitors to A&E will have to take a longer route through the main hospital to reach the department.

A six-week redesign project has now begun to improve the flow of patients through the hospital.

The redesign is being funded by NHS England as part of a national initiative where hospitals across the country were able to bid for a grant to create ‘primary care streaming’ in A&E.

The move will allow patients who do not need to be treated by an emergency doctor easier access to a wider range of health professionals.

Director of operations, Phil Walmsley, said: “The redesign will greatly improve services and make the department more efficient.

“During this time, visitors will need to enter via the main hospital, following the clearly marked signs and arrows to A&E.”
