DRIVERS will be asked their views on plans to close off one end of Aisecome Way in Weston.

North Somerset Council is set to stop traffic from entering the road from the Hutton Moor roundabout.

The idea has been floated after concerns were raised the junction is unsafe because of the amount of parking and congestion in the road.

Proposals have been made to only allow buses, emergency service vehicles and cyclists access from the roundabout.

Another part of the plan is to paint double yellow lines along the main road to prevent people parking awkwardly or dangerously, which has in the past led to congestion.

North Somerset councillor, Elfan Ap Rees, said: "Traffic has been backed on to the main road into Weston before because of congestion in Aisecome Way.

"This particular estate was never originally intended for retail use, therefore the roads are inadequate to cope with the traffic and parking.

"The other problem is that when the traffic crosses the Hutton Moor roundabout it is crossing the main traffic coming into Weston. There have been a lot of near misses there before."

If the work goes ahead traffic will be redirected to enter the estate further down the road, but will still be allowed to exit Aisecome Way on to the roundabout.
