A DIVERSION taking motorists on a nine-mile trip to get around roadworks between Burnham and Berrow will go ahead after all, council officials have confirmed.

The re-route looked to have been avoided when Somerset County Council reassured residents the installation of a new crossing in Berrow Road could be achieved without closing the carriageway.

But sewer repairs to be carried out by Wessex Water will still see the road closed from February 9-17, leaving motorists to traverse a nine-mile diversion around Brent Knoll.

A council spokesman said: “We apologise for this confusion to residents, and are very grateful to them for their patience as this essential work goes ahead.”
