Children and young people from a Somerset village were jumping for joy when a newly-refurbished play area was opened.

Cheddar Parish Council and Sedgemoor District Council teamed up to renovate a tired playground in the village last month.

Sedgemoor put £19,000 into the play area, in Draycott Road, to replace all of the equipment and place a new surfacing to make the park safer and family-friendly.

Parish council chairman Peter Colton said: “The council is very pleased to have made a major contribution to the play equipment.

“The work follows on from the new children’s play area which we installed at Sharpham Road playing fields late last year.”

The project was funded by Sedgemoor’s parks development budget with contributions from the parish council and other contributions.
