DEVELOPERS have revealed their hopes of finishing the next phase of Weston’s biggest new housing developments by 2017.

The next phase of Locking Parklands is in sight, as builders aim to put in a planning application for more new homes and long-awaited community infrastructure this year. They aim to have the work wrapped up in two-and-a-half years.

But it means those already living in the new homes will have to wait for public buildings such as dentists and a primary school.

A spokesman for St Modwen, the company behind the development, gave an update at the latest Locking Parish Council meeting.

He said St Modwen is planning with North Somerset Council and Mead Realisations, which is developing the land next door, to get the north-south link road finished by autumn 2017.

He said the project should take 18 months to complete, so it is estimated the build should start in spring 2016.

The north-south link road will link up the new housing developments to the motorway, and the improved access will hopefully encourage employers to move in to the currently empty office space, creating more jobs.

Ben Cook, residential land director at St Modwen Developments, said: “St Modwen is currently preparing a reserved matters planning application for the next phase of development at Locking Parklands, which will deliver around 150 to 175 homes.

“This will be submitted once the outline planning permission has been granted.

“A detailed proposal regarding the north-south link road is also due to be submitted in the upcoming months.

“Dependent on approval, the link road that will run through Locking Parklands is due to be completed towards the end of 2017.”

It is hoped the link road will act as a high street and host vital community facilities.

Mr Cook said: “The aim is also to deliver a primary school at Locking Parklands, as well as complimentary health services such as a dentist, pharmacy and opticians, by the end of 2017.”
