AN APPLICATION to allow the sale of booze outside a nightclub has been granted despite objections from 21 residents living nearby.

The Sands in Beach Road, Weston, has a terraced area at the front and its owners want to allow the sale of alcohol and entertainment to take place there.

The application went before North Somerset Council's licensing sub-committee who gave the plans the go-ahead with a number of conditions.

At the moment the space at the front of the 850-customer venue, is being used as an area for smokers.

The owners, Cam and Kiem Mu, do not want to extend the opening hours from 12noon to 4am seven days a week. But residents living near the nightclub, particularly in Carlton Mansions in Beach Road, objected to the latest application on grounds of noise disturbance and public nuisance.

The licensing sub-committee says the licence will not be varied until noise levels have been agreed with a council officer.

Musical entertainment on the terrace will also be limited to no more than one event in any seven day period, only on a Friday or Saturday and between 12noon and 12midnight.

Recorded music and supply of alcohol will also be allowed from Sundays to Thursday from 12 noon to 12midnight and Fridays and Saturdays from 12noon to 2am.
