POLICE officers in Hutton and Locking are hoping to launch a new campaign to help stop vulnerable people being targeted by rogue

traders.

Speaking at a Hutton Parish Council meeting, PC Dave Eastham said there are plans to start a no cold-calling scheme in the beat area.

The scheme is run between police and Trading Standards, and will mean no cold-calling signs will be displayed at the entrance of the villages and on house windows.

PC Eastham said: “It is aimed at people who prey on the elderly - rogue traders. They will realise it is an offence to knock touting for business in the cold-calling zone.

“We want to get it running building up to spring, when these people start touting for business. It’s a good thing for the community.”

Public consultation will take place in Hutton and Locking in the coming months.
