RESIDENTS and police are celebrating victory after successfully blocking plans by a Clevedon kebab house to open until the early hours. The Golden Grill, Old Church Road, had applied to change its hours to open until 1.30am seven days a week. But the move sparked massive concern from local residents who claimed the takeaway already caused problems with late night noise, litter and vandalism and any increase in opening hours would just exacerbate problems. But at a meeting of North Somerset Council licensing panel, councillors refused the application following objections from the police under the Licensing Act 2003.Officers said an increase in hours would result in crime and disorder and public nuisance.PC Karl Waltho, alcohol related violent crime reduction officer, said: "We are pleased with the outcome of the hearing."We are committed to making North Somerset a safe and enjoyable place for people to live and visit by reducing alcohol related antisocial behaviour and nuisance.
