Fancy overseeing the regeneration of Weston-super-Mare, 350 employees and a budget of £35million? How does £73,000 a year sound?

North Somerset Council is looking for an assistant director for ‘placemaking and growth’ after axing two influential job roles.

The council has scrapped its vacant head of streets and open spaces and seafront and events service manager posts.

The salary of the new job will be funded by the consolidation of the positions, with the council making £40,000 in annual savings.

The new assistant director will have regeneration, planning and economic development in their portfolio of responsibilities.

A council spokesman calmed concerns Weston could enjoy fewer seafront events without an employee focussing on the area full time.

They said: “We have new management arrangements in place and continue to develop the seafront events programme for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.”
