Children at a North Somerset primary school are being given a healthy start to the day, after a new fitness scheme was rolled out this term.

St Andrew’s Primary School, in Congresbury, has launched a ‘morning mile’ programme as part of a national initiative.

The activity sees children and staff running 13 laps of the school’s playground before settling down to lessons each morning.

Organiser Julie Mayo said: “The morning mile promotes the benefits of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.

“It improves fitness and wellbeing, but it also provides increased focus and concentration during lessons.

“It has been running for three weeks and is very successful.”
