North Somerset’s finest tourist attractions have been heralded at a prestigious awards ceremony this week.
Hotels, restaurants, cafés, and holiday parks were among businesses which went under the microscope ahead of the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards which were held at Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton on November 9.
A panel of experts spent six month evaluating entries from attractions across the region.
And many of North Somerset’s top tourism businesses enjoyed a night to remember, walking away with coveted prizes and being entered into the South West Tourism Awards.
Eat: Festivals, the team behind Weston and Burnham’s popular food showcases, enjoyed an unforgettable evening, winning gold in the festival of the year category.
Weston’s Dr Fox’s Tearooms fell just short of first place in the café of the year category, settling for silver while Cheddar’s Lion Rock Tea Rooms claimed gold.
Martin Hughes of Dr Fox’s said: the result was ‘the icing on the cake’.
He added: “We are very proud of what we have achieved with a very talented and hardworking staff.”
Wall Eden Farm Holidays and Adventure Activities, in East Huntspill, scooped bronze awards in the access and inclusivity, glamping and self catering categories.
Brean’s Holiday Resort Unity won a pair of silver prizes in the access and inclusivity and holiday park of the year classes.
Banwell-based caravan park Stonebridge Farm won bronze in the camping and caravanning category, while Lympsham’s Dulhorn Farm Holiday Park won silver in the same category.
Congresbury’s DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House won bronze in the large hotel class.
The Swan pub, in Wedmore, won second place in the tourism pub of the year category.
Nell Barrington, the event’s organiser, said: “These awards showcase the best that Somerset, Bristol and Bath have to offer visitors; from food and drink to attractions, experiences, accommodation and new for this year, guided tours.
“I hope that as many as possible can go on to win in the South West and then VisitEngland Awards, to raise the profile of this magnificent area.”
