A NORTH Somerset village is one step closer to getting its own parish council.

On Monday it was decided to take the next step of putting an advisory committee together to look at the options for Claverham's future.

Following a meeting in the summer the possibility of setting up the new structure was explored because at the moment the village shares a parish council with Yatton.

Parish councillor for Yatton and Claverham, Jean Watson, is going to be on the new committee, along with three other parish councillors. There is also the possibility of co-opting members of the public into the new group.

Cllr Watson said: "It was first talked about in July but is still in the very early stages.

"The parish plan was conducted and included a community survey in which a question was included asking what people thought of having a separate parish council for Claverham

"We haven't put these results together yet so don't know what villagers think.

"I hope the parish plan steering group will have more information to feed back to the new committee in January.
