A date has been confirmed for a by-election in North Worle, following the death of councillor Derek Mead.

Seats on both North Somerset Council and Weston Town Council became available after businessman Cllr Mead died in an accident on his farm in June.

The official notice for a by-election was published today (Wednesday), and announced polls would open for North Worle voters on August 31.

Nominations from candidates must be submitted to North Somerset Council, which is responsible for elections, by 4pm on August 3.

Cllr Mead was a member of North Somerset First Independents, and North Worle is currently represented by Conservative members on both councils.

The Liberal Democrat group is so far the only party to announce who will be running for the two seats.

The other parties are expected to announce their candidates in the coming weeks.
