POLICE are alerting drivers of the increase in number plate thefts and are urging them to protect their car’s identity to help prevent speeding ticket evasion.

Stolen number plates are used by criminals to falsely identify vehicles so they can be used in fuel thefts, road tax and insurance avoidance.

Avon and Somerset police has teamed up with Brunel Ford, in Winterstoke Road, Weston, to offer free fitting of anti-tamper number plate screws next month.
