A former Burnham mayor who acted as a councillor for more than 30 years has died aged 94.

Neville Jones served in the Royal Navy during World War Two, and moved to Burnham in the 1970s, where his diligent public service would later earn him an OBE.

He died at home on Tuesday, just 18 months after his wife of more than 60 years Margot.

Sedgemoor District Council leader Duncan McGinty said “Neville Jones was a larger-than-life character who felt passionately for Burnham. He was one of a kind and will be sadly missed.”
