Laura Young, spokesperson for the Met Office said: “In the south in the beginning of October we can see a settled forecast for warm weather. It is not an Indian summer but we are forecasting above average temperatures with prolonged periods of sunshine.”

The Met Office will be able to give a more detailed forecast for the start of October on Thursday.
