AN historic former school in Nailsea could be given listed building status.Town councillor and local conservationist Phil Barclay has written to English Heritage asking for the former Four Oaks Infant School to be given protected status and perhaps even Grade I or II listed.Nailsea Town Council tried three years ago to get the building, which is owned by North Somerset Council and used as a teacher training centre, listed but the application was rejected by English Heritage.Cllr Barclay said: "I am personally making this application to English Heritage. The council tried a while ago with no success and I am making a fresh bid."This is a really important building in Nailsea and has educated many generations of people in the town. There are also developments being planned for sites adjacent to the building which makes it even more important for it to be protected."The school and teacher's house were both built in 1843 at the same time as Christ Church. It was closed in 2003 following a council review of school places.
