CYCLISTS taking part in the 2012 Olympics could be biking around Cheddar as part of their training.

Broadway House, a caravan and camping park off Axbridge Road, is one of 60 venues in the South West to be named as a pre-Olympic training ground.

Cyclists will be able to use the facilities to train for all biking events, including down-hill cycling. It will also give foreign riders the chance to acclimatise to British weather before they face the international sporting event in London.

Co-owners Sue and David Moore were approached by organisers 18 months ago and had to tell them all about hotels and accommodation in the surrounding area. The camping site and information about the Cheddar area will be featured in a guide for countries competing in the 2012 Olympics and will be produced in time for this summer's Beijing Games.

The facility between Cheddar and Axbridge has also played host to Cheddar Bikefest, which is due to be held in September and is a two-day event including night riding and team cycles.
