ONLINE reports of a sex attacker targeting women in a Weston resort are wrong, according to police.

A national newspaper website published a story last night (Thursday) which detailed that a man was targeting women across the town.

The story, which is not dated, seemed to suggest that the attacks had happened last month.

But the incidents reported actually happened eight years ago.

A police spokesman said: “We understand that some people in Weston are concerned about reports that there may be a sex attacker targeting women in the resort.

“We have looked into this and we want to reassure people that these current rumours relate to some incidents which happened in September 2003.

“We are aware of one media website where the article is not clearly dated, so some people have presumably misunderstood this, and assumed that it is current.

“Please pass this on to anyone in the area who may be concerned.”
