A North Somerset bird of prey sanctuary opened its doors to the public at the weekend, in the hope of raising money to extend the centre.

Avon Owls, which is based at Whitley Head in Banwell, has launched an appeal to raise £45,000 to buy a new piece of land and build a permanent home for the charity, and a new educational facility for schools and visiting groups.

On Monday, volunteers were available throughout the day to talk to visitors about the different types of birds and what the charity does to help injured or sick birds.
