A TRIO of young owlets are the latest cuddly critters to have been rescued by Somerset wildlife charity Secret World as it braces for its busiest year yet.
The owls Ollie, Oscar and Ernie are just three in a long line of injured and orphaned animals the centre in East Huntspill has taken in – with 5,500 rescued last year.
Founder Pauline Kidner is predicting 2013 will be the charity’s busiest year yet, putting its 60 volunteers and nine staff under pressure.
She said: “This is putting a huge strain on our resources and is that is why we are now appealing urgently for more donations and offers of fundraising support.
“While the exceptionally cold and wet winter meant that for the first time our casualty pens were almost constantly full, the very late onset of spring has resulted in a huge influx of orphaned wild animals and birds.”
