RESIDENTS in Weston were furious when they awoke to discover a trail of paint along their road.A pot of white paint dripped from the back of a dustbin lorry as it travelled along Sloe Close.Resident Jerome Quirion said: "The lorry left white track marks down both ends of the road and on the pavement."Nobody should put paint in the bin but you would have thought the refuse collectors would have noticed the white paint leaking out along such a huge stretch of the road."It could have been a small amount of paint that we would have cleaned up ourselves but now it's made a mess everywhere."We tried scrubbing it but it wouldn't come off. Most of us are property owners and it is an absolute disgrace because it brings the area down."Several of us called North Somerset Council but were told the rain would wash it away. It is utter lethargy."A council spokesman said: "It is a very unfortunate situation caused by someone ignoring guidelines and placing paint in their bin. We have been to Sloe Close and due to the fact it is oil-based paint we cannot remove it."If we tried to clean it with high-pressure hoses it would unsettle the sand beneath the paving, causing major damage to the road. "It will fade over time and we urge residents to be patient."North Somerset councillor Mike Bell said: "I appreciate the difficulties with the paving, but I will be pressing for another solution to be found.
