A VILLAGE doctor is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next month to raise funds for a Backwell based disability charity.Pam Lambert from Cleeve will climb the 19,344ft mountain in Tanzania in February to raise much needed cash for Motivation, which helps design and build wheelchairs for people in developing countries. The challenge has been a long standing ambition of Dr Lambert's since she spent three months in east Africa as a medical student in 1971 and climbed to the first 'hut' at 7,000ft.After Dr Lambert completes her climb, she plans to see the charity's work first hand in Moshi, the nearest town to Kilimanjaro. Here, in 2000, Motivation established the world's first training course in wheelchair technology in partnership with the Tanzanian Training Centre for Orthopaedic Technologists.Since then 39 people from 11 countries, some of whom are disabled themselves, have successfully completed the course and returned to wheelchair workshops in their own countries to put their new skills into practice. To sponsor Dr Lambert, visit the online donations page at www.justgiving.com/motivatepam or contact the Motivation office on 01275 464012.
