Land in Weston-super-Mare has been earmarked for a park-and-ride scheme which will ‘boost business and create employment’, North Somerset Council has confirmed.
Land reserved for the scheme appeared on planing images for a food innovation centre, located near the M5 motorway.
A council spokesman, however, did say the park-and-ride facility was subject to further review and plans are yet to be confirmed.
Central ward councillor Richard Nightingale believes a park-and-ride is crucial to the development of the town. He told the Mercury: “Limited parking for residents and visitors in the town centre is already a concern.
“With this in mind, I personally believe that we need to look again at a park-and-ride for Weston, a scheme that would welcome people who would like to enjoy our town, which will boost businesses and create employment, while safeguarding limited facilities currently available for residents.”
