THE historic bandstand in Weston’s Grove Park is set to receive a face lift.
North Somerset Council has commissioned a contractor to replace four hand-made panels on the structure and also repaint the underside of it.
The Victorian attraction, which was first revealed to the public in 1891 when Grove Park was opened as the town’s premier public park, is considered an important feature in Weston and is regularly host to live music events.
It was damaged during recent severe weather and has remained fenced off for the past month. Scaffolding has now gone up in anticipation of the refurbishment which is due to start this week.
The work will cost £12,000 and will be carried out by Weston firm John West.
The regular Sunday band concerts, which are held each summer, are due to start in Grove Park at the end of the month and these will take place on the grass near to the park cafe if the work is not finished by then.
