Parking costs stir up Streetlife users

CONCERNS about parking charges on Weston-super-Mare’s seafront have been raised again by users of community social media forum Streetlife.
Conversations about parking problems are common on Streetlife and this time, users have suggested ways in which ‘expensive’ parking charges could be reduced for people who live in the town.
Caroline D started the latest thread and said: “There have been lots of emotive comments and a lot of upset people discussing this subject (seafront parking), but has the focus been lost among all the debate?
“So here’s another try. Should residents of Weston have concessionary parking within a radius of the town centre and seafront?”
Anita B was a fan of the idea and said: “That would be a good idea. Just to take the dog for a walk on the beach costs £5, (which is) a lot of money to do it everyday.”
Rock Star also liked Caroline’s suggestion, and said: “As a resident I liked to pop up to the seafront for a bit of exercise and a light refreshment, but North Somerset Council’s parking charges are now until 10pm.
“Most other resorts stop their charges at 6pm.”
Trevor S suggested: “(It is an) excellent idea, but it should be applied to all residents whose council charges go towards the upkeep of Weston town or seafront. That would be fairest.”
And Caroline D returned to the thread by saying: “Council tax-paying residents should be considered for a discounted parking system. After all, we are here all year round so we can provide an income to the council for 12 months consecutively, unlike school holiday visitors.”
