They concede their stamina is not the greatest and admit navigation is not their strength – yet a five-strong team from Weston’s Knightstone Housing has conquered Mount Snowdon to raise money for charity.

The group completed the challenge to raise more than £3,000 for MacMillan Cancer Care.

One of them, Emma Cooke, said in advance of the climb: “We’re not the fittest or the best at map reading, but we’ve got our walking boots and hiking poles at the ready to reach the summit.

“We’ll carry each other to the top if we have to. Let’s hope we don’t get lost.”

And companion Lauren Haasz said afterwards: “We’re bowled over by the support and donations we’ve received and the total keeps growing.

“It’ll all go such a long way towards helping Macmillan continue to provide care and support to those who really need it. It’s a charity close to all of our hearts for individual, personal reasons, and we’re really proud to have been able to contribute.”
