Pensioner sent to Crown Court

A PENSIONER pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a woman by careless driving and will be sent for trial at Bristol Crown Court.
Terence Whitfield, aged 78, of Newlands Green, Clevedon, appeared before North Somerset Courthouse after being charged with causing the death of Pauline Grubb, aged 63, by inconsiderate driving
The incident occurred in Northern Way on February 18 when Whitfield was driving south in a silver Vauxhall Zafira.
Prosecutor Kevin Blackmore told the court the defendant mounted the pavement and struck Ms Grubb who was walking her dog. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Whitfield must return to the courthouse on December 13 for his committal to Crown Court. Until that time he has been released on unconditional bail.
