People in North Somerset are being urged to take a free HIV test.

The free tests are being rolled out as part of National HIV Testing Week.

The finger-prick test is quick and painless and could prolong lives as it enables people to get treatment quicker.

It is recommended people get tested for HIV at least once a year, or more frequently if you have had unprotected sex or more than one partner.

The national campaign, run by HIV Prevention England, is being supported by North Somerset Council.

Testing is taking place on Saturday from 2-6pm on the MAVISbus at the Italian Gardens and from 6-9pm in the Proud Bar, in Boulevard.

Cllr Jill Iles, assistant executive member with responsibility for public health, said: “I’d urge everyone to have the test – it’s quick, easy and painless and puts you in control of your health.”
