Permission granted for badgers to be moved from allotment site after two years

The badgers can finally be moved.

The badgers can finally be moved.

Badgers will be moved from an allotment in Weston-super-Mare after two years of waiting.

The badgers made their home under the Hutton Moor allotment access in 2014.

The track had to be closed as badgers are a protected species and it is a criminal offence to interfere with a sett.

Since the cubs have now grown up, Weston Town Council has received permission from Natural England to remove the animals.

This will involve putting a mesh across the sett entrance. The badgers will no longer be able to get in, and will either join a new group or move to live somewhere else.
