A person has been hit by a train between Taunton and Weston-super-Mare causing heavy delays and cancellations to services.

Trains may be delayed up to 60 minutes or could be cancelled altogether after all lines were closed to care for the person.

Delays are expected to continue to 9.30pm this evening (Thursday).

A spokesman from Great Western Rail said: “As a result of this incident we are currently unable to operate any train services between Weston and Taunton which means Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea and Bridgwater stations will not be served by any train at present.”

Replacement buses have been put in place to operate between the stations.
