A Weston charity supporter has passed an incredible fundraising milestone, after collecting £100,000 for Cancer Research UK over the past decade.

Pete McKenzie began fundraising for the charity in 2006, and has since amassed the amazing sum through activities as varied as raffles, a Dry January alcohol abstinence, and performances in hotels around the town.

Becky Trout, the charity’s Somerset fundraising manager, said: “Pete has made a huge contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work over the past 10 years and we are incredibly grateful for his support.

“Pete set himself the goal of reaching this incredible target of raising £100,000 by Christmas this year and I am so pleased he has achieved this.”

One in two people in the UK will face cancer at some time in their life, but survival rates have doubled since the 1970s thanks to work by Cancer Research.
