THE turnout was far from rubbish as more than 70 volunteers helped remove about three quarters of a tonne of litter around North Somerset last weekend.

Locations included Weston Woods, Grove Park and the town centre in Weston, as well as other litter hotspots around the district, and formed part of a national ‘spring clean’ initiative.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “It’s quite staggering the volume of waste people just chuck on the ground in public places for others to pick up for them.

“The collected items were sorted into recyclable and non-recyclable waste.”
