MORE than 40 new pictures have been added to the Mercury's exclusive gallery offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Grand Pier rebuilding work.

Since work began on the new pavilion in the autumn, the Mercury has been publishing regular updates of unique images.

They are the work of photographer Chris Abbott, and are the only pictures which give the people of Weston a close-up look at rebuilding.

The new Grand Pier, which was destroyed by fire in July 2008, is beginning to take shape, as wall cladding is added to the imposing framework.

The multi-million development aims to be 'the best pier in the world', according to owners Kerry and Michelle Michael, and is on track to reopen in the summer.
