CHINESE immigrants are selling hard-core porn door-to-door in Weston, according to the authorities.Police and trading standards officers have caught three people selling hundreds of uncensored porn and bootleg feature films in the last year.Although the DVDs were confiscated, the culprits gave false details and were never prosecuted.Trading standards officer Stuart Brown said: "It's a known problem, not just in Weston, of Chinese immigrants selling both counterfeit and pornographic DVDs."As far as I'm aware, it's not the Chinese community that live in Weston. The sellers are coming from elsewhere. "The typical scenario is someone catching a train to Weston with a bag of up to 200 illicit DVDs and going door-to-door around town. "Normally 10 per cent is porn. It is stronger than what appears in regulated 'R18' videos, but not so strong as to be obscene, involving animals or children, which could lead to a prosecution under the obscene publications act."Part of the problem we have is that part of the community don't see it as being wrong and these people find a very good trade in Weston and never get reported."Over the last year trading standards and the police have picked up three individuals and seized the offending items."Because they are immigrants and there is language difficulties and difficulties of establishing where they live it is very difficult to take action against them."They are arrested and if we can prosecute that is considered. But there are difficulties getting these people into court. They can give details that appear to check out, but are false."It's a difficult matter for us. We do what we can, but I don't think it will ever go away."Selling pirate DVDs can land bootleggers with 10-year jail sentences and unlimited fines.
