A MASSIVE pirate ship is set to land in the middle of Marine Lake.

The life sized boat will perch on an island in the centre of the seafront site.

Walkways would be built to link each side of the lake to the attraction, which would be named Pirates of the Cove.

The project has been put forward by Weston business man and North Somerset councillor Chris Kimitri.

Cllr Kimitri, who owns the Nook and Harbour in Knightstone Road, hopes the idea will attract more visitors to the area.

The 42-year-old said: “For visitors with children there is hardly anything for their kids to do on the seafront.

“We need more activities to draw them back to Weston. Changing huts on the causeway will also mean anyone using the beach will be able to shower and get changed in privacy, and therefore go on to use other attractions.

“We should be able to get enough revenue from the boats on the lake and the new huts to avoid having to charge people for going on the ship.”

Taylor Made Play Equipment, a company based in Newquay, will build the ship.

Chris said: “We are still in the very first stages so we may add features to it as we go along, such as big guns on the deck that will shoot out water from the lake.
